TRAVEL: Olavinlinna & Cold-Weather Summer Style
I can finally share all the magical moments of my trip having just returned to Brooklyn and regular wi-fi access! With my husband and in-laws, I traveled to Finland to see the midsummer night sun and the Aida opera in a castle built in 1475 from as well as celebrate my wedding with my Finnish family and friends.
Style tips for traveling north in the summer:
Dress warm, but stick with light and bright colors: I’m wearing a long-sleeve peace silk dress by Ivana Basilotta that’s incredibly warm and light at the same time, Cri de Coeur studded vegan thigh-high boots in beige and H&M Conscious Collection blazer in nude (still available in some stores). The studded beige handbag is by Matt&Nat (old) and underneath it all I have navy thights by American Apparel. Outside, I also wore a Vaute Couture gray jacket (old).
Carry a colorful umbrella: mine is from Marimekko.
Wear your hair up: a side braid looks chic, but lasts all day even when it’s rainy and windy outside

Style: Hip-Hugging Tunic

This is our first-ever Helsinki vs. New York style pictorial!

The sister style challenge: how do you wear a tunic that’s fitted on the hips on different shapes and sizes? I have slimmer hips and look better with pieces that are slightly lose on me: shift dresses that just “hang” are heaven for my body type. Viola has fantastical curves, so she looks amazing in form-fitting, feminine pieces.

When we received this Ivana Basilotta Aurora  peace-silk piece as part of our MISSQA stock, we started brainstorming different ways to wear it.

Viola opted to style it as a slouchy top with wide-leg jeans. I, instead, wore it as a mini dress with tights. This summer, I’ll wear it with bare legs and Viola will swap the jeans to shorts. How would you wear this piece? Please let us know in the comments below!

Style: Skinny Jeans & Tunic

Ideal outfit for a casual friday, weekend or even everyday! I love a soft tunic over skinny jeans and a beanie is not only chic, but a great way to avoid styling your hair. Platform pumps and a wide belt add structure and style to the look. These pieces from my closet are by Ivana Basilotta (the tunic), Prairie Underground (jeans), Stella McCartney (belt), Olsen Haus (shoes). The beanie is an old one from the back of Viola’s closet! On the third photo, you see me style this outfit with my fall/winter hat.

STYLE: One-Shoulder Dress

I have never had easier time choosing what to wear when I was planning my outfit for my Finnish TV show’s premiere party. It takes me more time to dress for work meetings!

One-shoulder dress is always elegant, yet subtly sexy and it was exactly what I wanted to communicate when doing press. I paired this Ivana Basilotta peace-silk piece with a Jill Milan clutch and Beyond Skin leopard-print heels. I kept the gems simple and only added an old thin gold cuff (my good luck charm) and stud earrings.

The TV show follows the lives of four real Finnish women working and living in New York (yes, very Sex and the City) and premiered yesterday on the Liv TV channel. Some of the highlights include eco fashion events (in this city, being vegan and eco is glamorous!) and my volunteer trip to Catskills Animal Sanctuary, which is a magical place.
